The Project
Many young Black individuals are unable to cultivate and express their identity due to a lack of cultural progressiveness in MK. 12 local spoken word artists and musicians will collaborate together (18+; no age cap to allow cross-generational collaborations adding a unique perspective on shared/different experiences. Participants were chosen via a competition to collaborate with established musicians. The spoken word album will focus on what it means to be Black and British in the UK. The poets performed via a stream/free live concert for the local community. We created an inspiring impactful atmosphere that provided our talented artists to develop their artistic practice whilst introducing them to new art forms from the wider community. We were keen on working with new people and creative practitioners, who we identified themselves through the Black community. The recordings of the performance will be available soon. This demonstrate made a powerful impact. The artists that took part benefited alongside their families, local community and the wider community. The artists stated that they benefited from the contacts, experiences, skills and exposure, feeling a sense of pride and belonging.
